State of Indiana (DIA)
Abstract
Small and mid-sized manufacturers in Indiana are being impacted by both reductions in DoD procurement accounts and uncertainty in the overall federal budgeting process. These reductions in Defense spending make these manufacturers present a business risk and leave them overexposed. Further reductions, if realized, will result in layoffs and negative economic impacts throughout the state’s economy. Under this grant, the State of Indiana expects to develop a defense industry adjustment program which supports defense diversification strategies at the local and regional levels. Initially, the grant will allow for an assessment of defense-related impacts to help identify companies and communities most-at-risk to DoD budget reductions. The results of this initial analysis will position the state to better align its existing assets against specific needs identified by small to mid-sized defense manufacturing firms in order to transition small and mid-sized firms to new markets and workers to new skills needed in growth industries
