Seal Beach
Abstract
Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach is partnering with the Cities of Seal Beach, Long Beach, and Huntington Beach to study their existing conditions, potential growth, and potential opportunities and constraints. The installation has operated cohesively with surrounding jurisdictions and seeks to maintain amicable relationships by engaging in the Joint Land Use Study process. The study is intended to evaluate existing conditions, potential or planned growth for the installation and surrounding jurisdictions then identify any potential impacts these conditions may cause. The partnering jurisdictions will complete the RFP process to obtain a consultant that will be utilized to facilitate the study and ensure public stakeholders are involved in the process. The consultant will be expected to conduct an existing conditions analysis that is intended to identify potential impacts that may require additional evaluation and review during the study. At the outset, some areas of study have already been identified as needing evaluation due to potential impacts on the installation?s mission. Public safety and security concerns due to the close proximity of boat traffic near Anaheim Bay, and the potential reduction in ordnance transfer capabilities that may result from potential efforts to restore the ecosystem within the East San Pedro Bay. The Joint Land Use Study is intended to identify impacts and engage all participating jurisdictions and interested agencies and residents to propose possible solutions through potential changes to land use policies.
