State of Alabama (2)

Abstract

The United States Defense Industry is a huge asset within the state of Alabama and is responsible for a large part of the economic success the state has enjoyed for many years. The defense industry has a larger impact on Alabama?s economy than the automotive sector and construction sector combined. As a result, a wide range of public sector and private sector jobs are closely linked to Pentagon decisions. The economic impact on Alabama is extensive with more than 117,000 citizens working every day in defense related jobs both directly and indirectly. The Alabama Defense Industry Diversification Analysis Project goals are to understand the depth of the DoD budget impacts on Alabama, its citizens and economy. The Phase II strategy is to further develop the defense industrial base mapping completed in Phase I, while assisting defense-dependent contractors with market diversification for the purpose of reducing DoD funding dependency. The Military Stability Foundation (MSF) will be responsible for day-to-day implementation of program activities and deliverables, to include strategic plan development to strengthen the Mapping Tool, an Outreach Campaign and Sustainability plan in Task 1 of the Project. Task 2 will include a strategic plan for Market Diversification activities and Services to businesses.
