Grissom ARB
Abstract
The JLUS is to encourage local governments, together with the State, to work closely with the 434th ARW to implement measures that prevent the introduction of incompatible civilian development that may impair the continued operational utility of the military installation, and to preserve and protect the public health, safety, and welfare of those living near Grissom Air Reserve Base, and associated ranges, Military Training Routes, Special Use Airspace, and Military Operating Areas. The Miami County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) will acts as the sponsor or host for the JLUS project. MCEDA is the successor to the former Grissom Redevelopment Authority (GRA) and is recognized by the DOD as a Local Reuse Authority. Since Grissom ARB s footprint extends beyond the legal boundaries of Miami County, MCEDA has also invited and included three other contiguous counties and their major municipalities in the JLUS process and Committee Structure. These jurisdictions include Cass County and the City of Logansport; Howard County and the City of Kokomo; and Wabash County and the City of Wabash. MCEDA is ready to move forward on the project as soon as OEA approves this funding request. MCEDA anticipates completion of the project within 12 months from OEA approval. The major deliverable associated with the Grissom JLUS will be the final JLUS Study report. The report will include recommendations and tasks for implementation that provides guidance and direction to local and regional jurisdictions on compatible community and economic development uses for both current and future growth, while protecting and preserving Grissom ARB s operational viability over the long term.
