Middle Georgia DIA Phase 2

Abstract

In 2014, the Middle Georgia Regional Commission (MGRC), on behalf of the 11 counties and 20 cities of the region, initiated the Middle Georgia ? Growing Strong project to review the human capital, infrastructure, industrial, and regional leadership capacity of Middle Georgia. This project was supported by the Office of Economic Adjustment in response to the economic dependency of Middle Georgia on Robins Air Force Base and its associated defense contracts. Middle Georgia has seen significant job losses in the aerospace and defense sectors in recent years, which have contributed to economic challenges throughout the region. There is a continued need for economic adjustment assistance in Middle Georgia to serve dislocated workers, support remaining aerospace and defense industries, and reduce economic reliance on defense spending. To continue this support for the Middle Georgia region, and to build upon the knowledge and resources gained in the Middle Georgia ? Growing Strong project, MGRC proposes the Middle Georgia Asset Advancement Program (MGAAP) to address critical gaps in the region?s assets that may inhibit future economic growth. This program contains 11 projects within 4 key focus areas: 1. Economic Analysis: Aerospace & Defense Impact Analysis Asset Map-Supply Chain Integration 2. Strategic Planning: Transportation Master Plan FAST Act Compliance Middle Georgia Air Strategic Plan 3. Workforce Development: CGTC WorkKeys Supply & Demand Profile CGTC Military Transfer Equivalency Portal CGTC Aerospace Technical Skills Training Support High-Tech Entrepreneurial Support Program 4. Regional Leadership Capacity: Middle Georgia Regional Leadership Champions Through these components of the Middle Georgia Asset Advancement Program, MGRC primarily intends to increase knowledge about the regional economy, address regional aerospace and defense job cuts, stimulate the development of workforce skills, promote the diversification of the regional economy, and enhance economic development activity throughout Middle Georgia.
