Maryland Compatible Use

Abstract

The purpose of this program is to promote compatible civilian development in the State of Maryland that supports long-term military mission sustainability and continued regional community development in and around Maryland military installations. The overarching goal of the program is to provide the State of Maryland a strategic approach, in coordination with local governments, to that can address compatibility issues at a state level. Specific program objectives are: 1) To identify common capability challenges by assessing the recommendations to the made by the five recently completed local JLUS reports and prepare the State and State-level agency to strategically respond to those challenges. 2) To make recommendations the State can take to improve compatible land use at Maryland military installations through proposed legislation, policy changes, funding, and other supportive and strategic initiatives. 3) To review the State and local government?s current procedure for responding to incompatible land use issues and create a communication/interagency coordination plan to respond to encroachment threats. 4) To bring together multiple state and local agencies to form a unified committee to lead the direction of and response to the statewide compatibility project. 5) The project will produce a Statewide JLUS Implementation Strategy which will be implemented over time depending on the actions required.
