Walter Reed Army Medical Center

Abstract

Abstract The Walter Reed Local Redevelopment Authority (LRA) is requesting grant assistance from the Office and Economic Adjustment (OEA) to support the redevelopment of approximately 66 acres of land on the site formerly known as the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. On November 10, 2016, through an Economic Development Conveyance process, the LRA acquired the site from the Army and has leased its portion to a master developer, The Parks at Walter Reed Developer, LLC. OEA support will be critical to the redevelopment of the Walter Reed Site and anticipates use of the grant for contractual and operational services to support execution of the EDC, BRAC legal services, land surveying, and civil engineering services. The redevelopment of the campus will achieve the four goals set in the Reuse Plan: 1) Integrating the site with the community; 2) Providing a mix of uses; 3) Creating jobs and revenue for the District of Columbia; and 4) Activating the site The 3.1M square foot mixed use redevelopment will include over 2,100 housing units, affordable housing for a broad range of incomes and for formerly homeless veterans and seniors, a new town center anchored by a large format grocer and retail opportunities, a new charter school, fire station, preservation of historic buildings, the Great Lawn and over 14 acres of open space.
