State of Utah (Compatible Use)

Abstract

The Utah Governor?s Office of Energy Development (OED), in collaboration with Utah State University (USU) and the Utah Geological Survey (UGS), seeks to work hand-in-hand with the state, cities, counties, tribes, and military installations to develop computer tools and a knowledge base that will guide community and military planners, energy developers, and land stewards in the siting of energy projects that are compatible with the military operations in Utah. OED will administer the project. UGS will develop an ArcGIS map identifying current and potential sites for renewable energy development that are compatible with military operations in Utah. USU will review and expand existing regulatory processes and procedures for energy development at such sites, and prepare a final document that provides education and a clear explanation of the sites available for renewable energy development, and disseminate that knowledge to stakeholders through meetings, a final report, and partner websites. The 24-month effort will provide a detailed process to help stakeholders identify and develop compatible renewable energy development sites. The expected results and benefits include: ? List of renewable energy sites that do not impede military testing, training, and operations; ? Interactive display of renewable energy sites in a multi-layer ArcGIS map; ? Identification and explanation of the regulatory processes and procedures associated with energy development at the sites; ? Final report documenting the list of sites and the associated regulatory processes; and ? Transfer of knowledge and requirements to stakeholders (the military; state, local, and tribal governments; state and federal land stewards) through meetings and partner websites.
