Charleston JB (JLUS)

Abstract

This project proposes to allocate funding for specific resources to focus on accomplishing recommended strategies that will promote economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable development and encourage sound land use policies and regulations to prevent incompatible land development surrounding Joint Base Charleston (JBC). The strategies to be employed will assist local governments with preparation and adoption of land use controls that will minimize, or mitigate the impacts of, civilian communities located adjacent to Joint Base Charleston, preserve and protect the general welfare of residents living near Joint Base Charleston s facilities, increase public awareness of the military missions, and enhance communication and collaboration between communities and base operations. Additionally, this project will involve preparation of a Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) Supplement to address potential incompatible land uses and encroachments on the North Auxiliary Airfield, located in Orangeburg County, that serves as a training facility for Joint Base Charleston.
