New England Regional Defense Sector
Abstract
Under this grant, the New England Regional Defense Sector (though its agent the Vermont Department of Economic Development), intends to establish a New England Collaboration among the economic development organizations of the six New England states over an 18-month term. The six New England states have decided to form a working collaborative in order to significantly improve cross-border cooperation, support, and assistance for the Defense industry because of their geographical presence and history. This project will aim to create the organization in order to assist defense sector businesses to understand and assess their cybersecurity infrastructure, implement new DoD-mandated cybersecurity requiremnts, and to build a region-wide trusted supplier network. This project serves both the New England regional economic and DoD by creating a deeper pool of potential suppliers and a stronger supply base for DoD as a whole. These benefits are particularly valuable to rural and smaller suppliers that would not otherwise have access to these cybersecurity resources.
