Commonwealth of Virginia - Phase III
Abstract
The Commonwealth of Virginia continues to work on supporting businesses most impacted by the uncertainty in the federal budget. Being the leading state with more than $36 billion in defense contracts in FY 2016, it is critical that we continue to identify, track and assist these companies to ensure they are available to continue to provide the support to our Nation’s defense. This grant will provide for a process to assist defense companies to comply with requirements of DFARS 252.204-7012 for Management Systems to Safeguard Covered Defense Information and Cyber Incident Reporting; to support and expand to other areas of the Commonwealth entrepreneurship programs in support of the defense industry; and to expand the defense industry base in rural Virginia. These efforts facilitate the economic diversification of defense contractors and subcontractors. DoD will benefit from these efforts by ensuring defense companies, especially small businesses, comply with federal regulations and protect personal, financial, corporate and intellectual property from the continued escalation in risk of attack, breach and / or compromise. In addition, by encouraging entrepreneurships and expanding the defense industry into rural Virginia, it creates opportunities and businesses that are able to flex with the expansion and contraction in defense spending over time. Diverse and agile businesses are best suited to adjust to changes yet continue to support the defense industry.
