Crane NSA (JLUS)

Abstract

The Indiana Office of Defense Development will continue with implementation of the Naval Support Activity Crane Joint Land Use study recommendations by continuing to support adoption and implementation by military agencies and civilian governments of compatible land development measures designed to minimize incompatible land development activities; safeguard the military mission; and protect the public health, safety and welfare, while supporting economic prosperity of the region. The implementation will provide an opportunity for greater public awareness of the military mission. It will allow for greater collaboration between civilian and military entities in planning efforts. 1. Assist the participating JLUS jurisdictions transitioning the JLUS Policy Committee to a permanent WRMCA forum and manage the meeting arrangements, notifications, and maintain the membership list until an alternate plan is in place to support that entity organizationally. 2. Develop and implement a practical, manageable, annual communications and outreach plan with the new NSA Crane Commander and staff and revise the communications manual as needed. 3. Design, host and update a public information website for the regional effort; research and develop an appropriate, manageable social media presence to carry out communication strategies recommended by the JLUS; and prepare communications tools directed toward local governments, regional businesses, mass media groups, NSA Crane, and other groups as identified. 4. Establish baseline inventory of all properties and land use characteristics within a three-mile buffer perimeter of NSA Crane and LGTF. Research and identify funding sources that can be utilized to implement encroachment safeguards via easements and other land use controls.
