Regional DMAP-C

Abstract

This project directly supports modernization efforts to facilitate the economic diversification of defense contractors and subcontractors, builds a more resilient supply-chain for DoD, and contributes to more robust local economies in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Through a well-defined process of outreach, qualification, assessment, and mentored implementation, the University of Michigan in partnership with Purdue University and Ohio State University will engage and shepherd companies through a process that improves their ability to develop the security requirements to protect controlled unclassified information (CUI) in nonfederal systems and remain an integral resource within the defense supply chain. The proposed Defense Cybersecurity Assurance Program (DCAP) will strengthen 75 small to medium-size defense suppliers across the three states through a cybersecurity awareness assessment, followed by expert support to implement critical tools to secure CUI and verify compliance to the NIST SP 800-171 guidelines. This program is a continuation of a defense supply chain resiliency project run by the three universities. Small to medium-size companies will be eligible if they earn at least 10% annually of their business revenues from DoD-derived contracts (at any supply chain tier) currently or within the past 5 years. Companies demonstrating the critical potential to address a particular need in the defense supply chain may also be eligible. Priority will be given to companies in rural areas.
