State of Mississippi - USM Phase 2

Abstract

Mississippi Defense Diversification Initiative (MDDI) was established to invest expertise and resources needed for sustainability and strengthening of a resilient business ecosystem that was traditionally defense dependent. This project directly supports modernization efforts to facilitate the economic diversification of defense contractors and subcontractors and builds both a more resilient supply-chain for DoD but also directly contributes to a more robust economy locally. This project will support the defense industrial base in Mississippi through the recruitment, education and technical assistance for contractors and subcontractors in achieving compliance with NIST 800-171 security control requirements. MDDI is also focused on defense technologies being accelerated into commercial and dual-use applications and provides economic development technical assistance to defense-dependent communities. This work reinforces DoD’s larger mission, by building intellectual capacity within the supply chain, capitalizing on competitive strengths, spurring innovation, enhancing capabilities, improving cyber security and readiness, and promoting stability and resiliency of the defense supply chain, all of which are critical elements to bolstering national security and supporting the warfighter.
