State of Texas
Abstract
Texas seeks to mitigate the impact of defense spending cuts on the state economy through identification and assistance to affected businesses, creation of analyses to aid economic planning for affected regions, and facilitation of high-impact entrepreneurship and technology acceleration activities in those regions. The State of Texas will accomplish the following activities: (A) Supply Chain data analysis and Asset Mapping – this work will accelerate identification and support for impacted high growth potential companies and provide this information to state and local economic development officials. (B) Business assistance to Supply Chain Companies - supported by Texas Manufacturing Assistance Corp., Southwest Research Institute and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. (C) Advanced Technology Acceleration, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship - Assist small businesses and individuals in finding ways to commercialize ideas and create a magnet for business attraction through the MassChallenge model. This project supports the defense industrial base in Texas through the recruitment, education and technical assistance provided to businesses in Texas. This project supports the economic diversification of defense contractors and subcontractors and builds a more resilient supply chain for DOD but also contributes to a more robust local economy. University of Texas at Arlington and other MEP Affiliates will conduct assessments and gap reports and complete system security plans for select qualifying companies. Many of these companies are at risk of not meeting the DFARS 252-204-7012 and NIST 800-171 standard and need this assistance to continue to work as DOD contractors.
