NAS Lemoore/Akers ES Construction Supplement (SP)
Abstract
Central Union School District received a Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment grant for the purpose of planning and design activities at the Admiral Akers Elementary School on Lemoore Naval Air Station, California. This grant allowed CUESD to create and design school plans for the renovation, modernization, and expansion of the Admiral Akers Elementary School in order to address capacity and facility condition deficiencies, as determined through the July 2011 Deputy Secretary of Defense “Public Schools on Military Installations Priority List.” CUESD will construct and modernize the Admiral Akers School campus consistent with the designs and project scope which includes construction of a new junior high school classroom pod, a new multipurpose event center, enhancing site infrastructure, and modernizing existing facilities. The modernized Admiral Akers Elementary School project will support a total enrollment of approximately 950 students; kindergarten through eighth grade. This grant request is to allow CUESD to proceed with the second phase of the construction project with the purpose of completing the renovation, modernization, and expansion of the existing Admiral Akers Elementary School campus. Construction will be staged to allow the existing school to remain open during construction. This project scope involves securing bids and contract awards, mobilization, construction of facilities, and close out activities, with a target completion date of early summer 2021.
