Lewis McChord JB CU Implementation 3

Abstract

The South Sound Military & Communities Partnership (SSMCP) works to address issues that affect military and civilian communities around JBLM and to foster outcomes that are mutually beneficial for the South Puget Sound region. This is the final implementation grant request associated with the 2015 Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Joint Land Use Study (JLUS). The funds provided in this grant allow SSMCP to accomplish the following tasks originally outlined in the 2015 JLUS: • Analyze local transportation impacts • Establish a process for coordination among JBLM and neighboring communities to seek ways to provide adequate housing for service members. • Expand conservation banking and conservation partnering opportunities in Thurston County. Accomplishing these tasks will lead to improved traffic flow to and from JBLM, greater availability of affordable housing for military members, and ensure the critical training conducted at JBLM can continue as required to support operational readiness. These actions combined increases the resiliency of the installation to conduct its mission and supports retention and readiness of individual Service members and their units onboard the installation. SSMCP will continue its collaborative partnership with JBLM to ensure land uses adjacent to the base are compatible with continued operations, functions and missions at JBLM.
