Broome County, New York (SPG)

Abstract

In 2011, the property at 600 Main Street and the surrounding area was completely destroyed by floodwaters from Tropical Storm Lee. The result of this was the displacement of nearly 1,500 employees from BAE Systems, the sole tenant of the building. Subsequently, BAE requested abandonment and since that time, the property has sat vacant. The U.S. Air Force will transfer the site to the Broome County Industrial Development Agency (IDA). The primary focus of this grant request is to provide for compliance with the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), which includes preparation of a Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS) to advance the redevelopment of the site towards a "build ready" state. The completion of the redevelopment project will greatly enhance the economic and business development opportunities for the Village of Johnson City and the Binghamton, NY region.
