Grissom ARB JLUS Implementation

Abstract

The purpose of the Grissom compatible use implementation grant is to implement high priority recommendations identified by the community in the compatible use study completed in March 2017. The Miami County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) will act as the sponsor for the project. Since Grissom Air Reserve Base footprint extends beyond the legal boundaries of Miami County, MCEDA has invited three other contiguous counties and their major municipalities into the compatible use process and committee structure. These jurisdictions include Cass County and the City of Logansport; Howard County and the City of Kokomo; and Wabash County and the City of Wabash. The specific tasks include an action plan for land use compatibility for the Clear Zones; Prepare a Grissom Airport Overlay zoning for town of Galveston, Indiana; Develop Disclosure Statements notifying new home owners of proximity to Grissom ARB.; Develop an MOU for Wind Energy development process between the Community and 434th ARW; Develop a Grissom Military Community Partnership website; Update Miami County Zoning Maps to include the City of Peru; and update GIS Mapping for Galveston, Walton, and Cass County; Through implementation of these high priority recommendations the local governments, together with the State, will work more closely with the 434th Air Reserve Wing to implement measures that prevent the introduction of incompatible civilian development that may impair the continued operational utility of the military installation, and to preserve and protect the public health of those living near Grissom Air Reserve Base, and associated ranges and Military Training Routes.
