KY - Fort Knox - CU

Abstract

Lincoln Trail Area Development District (LTADD) will serve as the sponsor for the Fort Knox Compatible Use Plan (CUP). Fort Knox has encroachment from new residential housing developments that have caused it to shift an artillery firing point, and endangering its ability to conduct combined arms and tank Table XII gunnery live fire training on the Yano Range. The CUP will help preserve the critical combined arms live fire training occurring at Fort Knox. The CUP will be a community-driven and collaborative planning process that will strive to promote compatible civilian development in support of military readiness and defense capabilities at Fort Knox. Promoting the economic vitality of the local communities will assist in raising awareness of local officials. In addition, aspects to protect public health, safety, welfare, and quality of life will be addressed. Protecting mission items such as the continued viability of the aviation ranges from encroachment and continuing to foster communication among Fort Knox and the surrounding communities to address compatibility issues will serve to ensure long term mission success. The study area for the CUP will include one (1) and five (5) mile radiuses to address land use compatibility issues and an expanded radius for addressing noise and light concerns. The proposed 18-month CUP project will include the following deliverables: A Fort Knox CUP Website, an Internet-Based Mapping Portal, Public Participation Plan, final CUP Report with Implementation Recommendations, an Executive Summary for public distribution.
