Fort Meade/Meade HS Construction

Abstract

Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) is applying for grant funding from the DoD Public School on Military Installation (PSMI) program to remedy the facility condition and capacity deficiencies, as identified by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) at Meade High School located on Fort George G. Meade in Maryland. Meade High School, which provides ninth through twelfth grade education to military dependents, is ranked 30 on the DoD Public Schools on Military Installation Priority List dated July 15, 2011. AACPS has proactively addressed several of the identified deficiencies since the 2011 DoDEA Facility Condition Assessment Report and examined multiple options to resolve the remaining identified deficiencies based on Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) school construction standards, Local Education Agency (LEA) educational goals, facility condition, construction costs, and the future maintenance and operating expenses. The proposed construction project will resolve the DoDEA identified concerns, and other facility limitations, through a renovation/addition project using a phased construction approach. The design for this project was completed under a previous Planning and Design grant from DoD s Office of Economic Adjustment. The scope for this project includes completion of the construction activities and certificate of occupancy by June 2024 followed by final construction grant deliverables in June 2025. Capacity and condition concerns will be addressed by, among several improvements, adding new facilities including a two-story classroom wing with outdoor courtyard, cafeteria with adjacent kitchen and loading dock, one-story main entrance with security vestibule, and a performing arts wing with dance studio.
