State of Texas CU - Phase II

Abstract

NRI will assess current and future challenges and associated drivers affecting Texas installations and their assets. Through thorough literature reviews, mapping exercises and expert opinion, NRI will develop three issue reports that focus on (1) existing compatible land use studies and other state wind-related legislation, (2) statewide land use changes and (3) threatened and endangered species candidate listings. Information derived from these reports will be included in a web tool created in ArcGIS StoryMaps. This tool will be publicly available and will describe the current and future state of issues concerning military installations in Texas. This tool will be maintained in perpetuity by NRI. NRI will continue to update and support the previously developed web-based Texas Early Notification Tool (TENT; http://tent.nri.tamu.edu/) for public use. This tool currently provides users access to geospatial and point of contact information that help facilitate early communication between industry developers and military planners. This effort, although just recently released in 2019, has already received positive feedback from industry and military groups alike. Continuing on this path, we will host the annual stakeholder meeting to facilitate and encourage continued communication and coordination across the state between the services and industry. This annual meeting will also serve to review and suggest updates to features on TENT.
