State of Mississippi - USM Phase 3

Abstract

Mississippi Defense Initiative invests expertise and resources needed for the sustainability and strengthening of a resilient business ecosystem that was traditionally defense dependent. The effort has expanded into a coordinating body to help guide, market, disseminate information, and facilitate policy recommendations for Mississippi’s defense economy. This project continues to directly support modernization efforts to promote the economic diversification of defense contractors and subcontractors and builds both a more resilient supply-chain for DoD but also directly contributes to a more robust economy locally. MDI focuses on defense technologies accelerated into commercial and dual-use applications and provides economic development technical assistance to defense- dependent communities. This work reinforces DoD’s broader mission by building intellectual capacity within the supply chain, capitalizing on competitive strengths, spurring innovation, enhancing capabilities, and promoting stability and resiliency of the defense supply chain. All are critical elements to bolstering national security and supporting the warfighter.
