State of Illinois - Supp.
Abstract
The ‘grant abstract’ remains the same as in original application, included here for easy reference: Illinois has a strong manufacturing sector and significant defense assets. Defense contractors in the state received a total of nearly $8.0 billion from DOD contracts in 2016. The defense industry is very important to the Illinois economy and to the many businesses and communities that benefit from it. It is imperative that close attention is paid to the ecosystem in order to ensure that communities and businesses are informed of changes and trends, and equipped with the necessary tools to keep themselves up to speed and continue to take advantage of opportunities and prepare for contingencies to mitigate adverse impact. The project team has used Phase I grant funding to lay the foundation and to build the state-wide organization required to implement strategies to support manufacturers and business, as well as communities and stakeholders so that benefits from defense spending continue to have a positive impact on the economy of the state and on the communities and businesses within it. This Phase II grant project directly supports modernization efforts to facilitate the economic diversification of defense contractors and subcontractors and builds both a more resilient supply-chain for DoD but also directly contributes to a more robust economy locally. Additionally, the project will support the defense industrial base in Illinois through cybersecurity assessment, consulting and implementation assistance to help contractors and subcontractors in achieving compliance with NIST 800-171 security control requirements.
