State of Mississippi, University of Mississippi - Phase II

Abstract

Based upon the success of MS Forge, an Office of Economic Adjustment funded grant project, The University of Mississippi s Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence will deploy MS Forge Forward, which will utilize findings and recommendations in the initial phase to pilot several new workforce development programs and develop new partnerships with DoD-funded manufacturing institutes. These activities will drive an effort to address the skills gap of the Mississippi defense manufacturing workforce. Another critical activity under this grant is the deployment of a survey to defense contractors in the state to understand the vulnerabilities and identify potential solutions to the supply chain challenges provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. All activities under this grant align with the coal of increased resilience in the Mississippi defense industrial base, a major driver of the state economy and a critical hub of DoD activity.
