NSA Bethesda MIR

Abstract

This grant will allow Montgomery County to analyze and develop actions necessary to foster, protect and enhance climate sustainability at Naval Support Activity Bethesda (NSAB) and the surrounding area. During the one year grant term, Montgomery County will utilize a contractor to assess approaches to minimize impacts from flooding caused by extreme storm events, evaluate opportunities for storm water management to improve water quality, develop approaches to prevent or address adverse impacts to transportation logistics and the power grid, and ensure that this plan addresses climate resiliency challenges. A hydrologic and other models will be utilized to identify areas most likely to flood during extreme weather. Properties upstream of these identified flooding areas will be evaluated for the ability to reduce storm water flow volumes. The outcomes from this planning effort will assist NSAB and Montgomery County to minimize impacts from extreme weather events and improve emergency response efforts.
