Ohio Defense Manufacturing Community
Abstract
The Ohio Development Services Agency, in collaboration with Ohio defense manufacturers, led by the Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), and including Ohio Manufacturers Association (OMA), AmericaMakes and Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) was recently designated as the Ohio Defense Manufacturing Community (ODMC) by the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition and Sustainment). Through a focused effort to offer Industry 4.0, advanced manufacturing technical assistance, and credentialed workforce development support for small and medium defense manufacturers will engage the Defense OEMs and supply chain of over 1,800 companies to provide better products, increase production and stronger workforce. • Ohio has an agile, resilient manufacturing network driven by 13 regional Sector Partnerships and the Ohio MEP’s COVID-19 response efforts. • The designation is designed to support long-term community investments that strengthen national security innovation and expand capabilities of defense manufacturers. • The goal of the ODMC is to create the nation’s leading defense manufacturing community through better products addressing DoD’s most pressing manufacturing challenges across the land, air, sea and space forces. • With 1,800+ defense manufacturers and another 14,000 potential defense manufacturers, the ODMC can not only deepen and broaden the DoD’s supply chain but align that supply chain specifically to address DoD challenges and opportunities. • As part of this effort, the ODMC will invest in Industry 4.0 and advanced manufacturing technologies adoption across small and medium defense manufacturers and developing a diverse, highly skilled workforce to maximize these new technologies.
