Jefferson ES Design and Construction - Ft Riley
Abstract
The Geary County Unified School District (GCUSD) is applying for grant funding from the DoD Public Schools on Military Installations (PSMI) program to remedy the facility condition and capacity deficiencies as identified by the Department of Defense (DoD) at Jefferson Elementary School located on Fort Riley in Kansas. Jefferson Elementary School, which provides pre-kindergarten through fifth grade education to military dependents, is ranked 38 on the DoD priority list dated July 2011. GCUSD has considered multiple options to resolve the identified deficiencies and examined them based on State of Kansas and District school construction standards, educational goals, facility condition, construction costs, and future maintenance and operating expenses. The design solution resolves the DoD identified concerns and other facility limitations by replacing the school through a design and phased construction approach. The construction of new buildings resolves significant issues that cannot be addressed by modernizing the existing buildings (including temporary units) and reduces the time and cost that would be associated with modernization. The project scope for this project includes completion of the design and construction activities with a target completion in late 2022.
