NSA Crane/Grissom AFB Implementation

Abstract

This grant has three focus areas that will preserve and protect Indiana s critical Military assets. The project will conduct a growth assessment of the communities surrounding Grissom Air Reserve Base (ARB), Naval Support Activity (NSA) Crane, Atterbury Muscatatuck Training Center and Indiana Air Range Complex. Based upon those results, we will identify key recommendations for legislative and regulatory changes to prevent incompatible community development that are likely to impair the missions of these bases and training sites. Secondly, the project will develop, adopt and implement a State wide Compatible planning handbook. The handbook will assist jurisdictions, developers, residents and the military with identifying development types that could potentially be incompatible with the military missions. This handbook would address growth guidelines for buildable lands, housing, transportation, urban areas, and capital facilities planning. Finally, the project will conduct a study to develop and adopt a multi-jurisdictional agency plan to transition of the town of Crane waste water system from NSA Crane to the Greene County Waste Water Treatment Plant.
