Pueblo Area Defense Diversification 2022
Abstract
As a member of the Chemical Weapons Convention under the 1925 Geneva Protocol, the United States Army is scheduled to complete chemical demilitarization of all chemical munitions at the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant by December 31, 2023. This grant allows the Pueblo Depot Activity Development Authority to evaluate the impacted workforce and analyze the reuse potential of Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant with the goal of retaining a majority of the 2,000 employees connected to the chemical demilitarization mission. This deadline has the potential to trigger a massive impact to the local economy if these skilled workers are not appropriately transitioned into equivalent economic opportunities within the community.
