USMA West Point 2 - Installation Resilience

Abstract

The County of Orange will help the United States Military Academy at West Point to protect, preserve and enhance a resilient future by examining natural gas supply, identifying risks, and plans for mitigation. The County will undertake a study to identify vulnerabilities and threats and to analyze natural gas infrastructure improvements needed to increase the resilience of the natural gas supply and assure uninterrupted natural gas service to the installation and its surrounding communities. Options to increase natural gas transmission through upgrades of new or extended gas lines will be examined along with the potential addition of compressed natural gas storage stations to enhance reliability and redundancy. The study will also look at sections of natural gas transmission lines with known flow constrictions during extreme cold and high heating demand periods as well as other transmission lines that limit gas pressure and supply capacity. An implementation action plan will be developed to support long-term planning and mitigation.
