Abstract
A major challenge to long-term competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing is the ability to increase technical innovation. The University of Alabama in Huntsville Office for Operational Excellence (UAH-OOE) will provide technical assistance to Alabama defense suppliers to identify industries with the greatest needs and provide assistance focused on: 1) industry knowledge of advanced manufacturing and modernization technologies and their benefits; 2) identifying opportunities to modernize operations and processes; and 3) providing technical assistance in the planning for the adoption and integration of technologies, including advanced manufacturing. Services include modernization assessments to evaluate business readiness to apply advanced technologies, identifying gaps where the application of these technologies could be utilized and evaluating the potential impact of adding technology. Training on how modern technologies can support their organizations, analysis of applying technology solutions, support in developing a business case, coordinating technology demonstrations and technical support in implementing new technologies.
