Abstract
Enable the Empire State Development s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) to provide modernization assistance to manufacturers and early-stage companies whose innovative technologies and products are initially focused on defense markets. Currently, NYSTAR is aware of over 50 companies in great need of modernization assistance. Under this grant, 12 defense companies will receive modernization assistance from a NYSTAR center. This assistance will cover training in advanced materials, technology and efficient processes. Through the reporting of this project NYSTAR will reflect how many workers are benefitting from this project. Businesses that will be assisted will be from Defense dependent counties or individual Defense dependent businesses. The New York counties with the highest defense dependency are Tioga, Jefferson, Oneida, Orange, Niagara and Schenectady which are Defense Dependent areas. After exhausting this pool of businesses, the grant will assist businesses in other counties, as long as those businesses are heavily defense dependent (at least 60% of their spending revenue is derived from Defense spending).
