Ellsworth AFB Mission Growth

Abstract

"The Douglas School District is responding to the growth at Ellsworth Air Force Base. In August 2020, the Department of the Air Force published its B-21 Main Operating Base Environmental Impact Statement, which outlined the expected number of personnel, dependents, civilians and contractors that would be associated with the B-21 mission and contribute to the growth of Ellsworth Air Force Base, Box Elder, and the Douglas School District. This expansion is impacting the region, in particular the Douglas Schools, as current facilities are at capacity. Douglas School District is undertaking the planning and design of new public services and infrastructure. This includes a variety of feasibility study elements such as traffic studies, demographic studies, the design of the GeoThermal loop and more. These key planning efforts serve as the foundation for future facilities and infrastructure and ensure that the Douglas School District can continue to properly support the education of our military children, retaining Airmen and their families assigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base."
