Jefferson ES Supplement #1 - PSMI

Abstract

"The Geary County Unified School District (GCUSD) is applying for supplemental grant funding from the DoD Public Schools on Military Installations (PSMI) program to remedy rising costs and the facility condition and capacity deficiencies as identified by the Department of Defense (DoD) at the former Jefferson Elementary School located on Fort Riley in Kansas. The razed Jefferson Elementary School, which provided pre-kindergarten through fifth grade education to military dependents, was ranked 38 on the DoD priority list dated July 2011. GCUSD has considered multiple options to resolve the identified fiscal and facility deficiencies and examined them based on State of Kansas and District school construction standards, educational goals, facility condition, construction costs, and future maintenance and operating expenses. The design solution resolves the DoD identified concerns and other facility limitations by replacing the school through a design and phased construction approach. The construction of new buildings resolves significant issues that cannot be addressed by modernizing the existing buildings (including temporary units) and reduces the time and cost that would be associated with modernization. The project scope for this project includes completion of the design and construction activities with a target completion in mid calendar year 2023 with the school opening for the fall 2023 semester."
