CNMI Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs Transition
Abstract
In response to the unprecedented nature and magnitude of the Department of Defense basing actions proposed for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), the protracted Department of Defense period of engagement, the continuum of economic activity ranging from boom-bust-boom, and the daily challenge to deliver government services to the CNMI citizens; the grant enables the Governor to sustain the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs, within the Office of the Governor. The Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs enhances the role of the Office of the Governor as the single point of contact for all Federal actions associated with the Department of Defense programs; ensures the Commonwealth’s equities are represented; enables the Governor and the Commonwealth Government to make informed decisions on behalf of the Commonwealth; enhances communications with the Department of Defense; enhances community outreach and awareness; and enhances the Office of the Governor and Commonwealth Government’s responsiveness and effectiveness to the Department of Defense programs and initiatives. Enhancing the Commonwealth s analytical decision-making and responsiveness is paramount; given the strategic importance of the Department of Defense proposed programs for the Commonwealth, which enhance and ensure Department s resiliency in the Indo-Pacific Area of Responsibility.
