MCAS Beaufort/MCRD Parris Island - Installation Resilience 2

Abstract

The Lowcountry Council of Governments will begin implementation of the Lowcountry MIRR recommendations for Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, and the surrounding communities. The primary goal is to provide scoping and design for the top-ranking pilot project identified in the Lowcountry MIRR. The project will focus on the Shell Point Interchange at US 21 at Parris Island Gateway/Ribaut Road and Malecon Drive. The Shell Point Interchange serves nearby neighborhoods and the only land entrance to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island . The interchange also serves as a major US highway and designated critical evacuation and access route for both the Marine installation and the community. The project will provide scoping and design for the short term Lowcountry MIRR recommendations for the Shell Point Interchange with the intent to lead to future implementation. The Lowcountry MIRR Shell Point recommendations seek to improve local ecosystem services and maintain integration of physical, economic, community, and infrastructure.
