SUBASE New London - Installation Resilience

Abstract

The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments will advance resilience projects identified by community stakeholders and SUBASE New London as being necessary to improve reliability of electrical power, natural gas, and drinking water systems that serve the installation and the surrounding area in northwest Groton, Connecticut. This project will allow Groton Utilities to study and complete 100% design plans to address identified vulnerabilities in off-base drinking water and electrical power systems. By addressing the vulnerabilities, Groton Utilities will be able to improve the reliability of these systems, which are important lifelines to SUBASE New London. Eversource Energy, which owns natural gas infrastructure, will complete preliminary designs for a looped natural gas main, which will provide a redundant natural gas feed for SUBASE New London. Importantly, natural gas runs on-base fuel cells, which power the base s emergency power microgrid.
