State of Indiana - Modernization

Abstract

This project will focus on modernization issues such as digital transformation and automation in an attempt to accelerate progress in the defense industrial base in Indiana. The value to the DoD is technically more capable, more productive and more competitive companies in the DIB. Purdue will: 1. Conduct training, information sessions and company specific engagements/consulting to help clients overcome the barriers to digital transformation such as the lack of expertise to lead digitization initiatives, lack of digitization strategy, required infrastructure updates, employee pushback and budget. 2. Introduce companies to Additive Manufacturing concepts and practical actions that are responsive to production demand. MEP will put a focus on Additive Manufacturing (AM) as a production source for items that may require rapid delivery, low quantities, or have customization needs that traditional manufacturing can struggle to meet. 3. Support and enable the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies with familiarization training and consultative assessments of manufacturing unit operations to identify opportunities to deploy advanced automation technologies. MEP will focus on affordable, readily available, and easily maintainable technology solutions that are suitable for small to medium-sized manufacturers in the defense supply chain. In addition to company personnel, high school guidance/technical counselors will be invited to the technology workshops so that they can better inform students/our future workforce. We will also share information regarding apprenticeships that support incumbent workers or students. 4. Attempt to match NSWC - Crane s operational requirements to resources that can potentially satisfy their needs. Our focus on the above areas will allow firms to modernize and increase productivity, efficiency, attractiveness, and competitiveness. These activities will enable companies and workers to become more agile and responsive to changing military requirements and needs (readiness).
