Commonwealth of Kentucky - Modernization

Abstract

The Commonwealth of Kentucky, through the Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs, will develop the Collaborative Opportunities to Modernize Practices, Engagement, Teams, and the Economy for Success (COMPETES) project, a planning effort to advance the modernization and diversification of Kentucky s defense industrial base ecosystem. The grant will enable statewide coordination of modernization and diversification efforts by identifying and examining the innovation and expansion in areas such as technological, environmental, housing, workforce needs, policy recommendations, infrastructure priorities, and emerging concepts in manufacturing, aerospace, and distribution and logistics. A collaborative outreach strategy will engage defense industrial base businesses and key state entities to include economic development, workforce, education, and industry associations to examine and identify priorities, policies, and practices that advance and stunt progress to uncover solution-based approaches. An outline of workforce pathways will be developed for veterans, transitioning service members, spouses, and specialty needs among the defense industrial base as a strategic response to addressing the continuing urgency and foundational aspects to modernization and diversification efforts within the Commonwealth.
