State of South Carolina - Modernization

Abstract

This project will focus on modernization issues such as digital transformation and automation in an attempt to accelerate progress in the defense industrial base in South Carolina. The grantee will introduce small and medium manufacturers in the Department of Defense (DoD) supply chain to advanced manufacturing technology and training. The Team will conduct outreach and engage DoD manufacturers though informational sessions, webinars and business-to-business events, and provide other resources to improve overall business competitiveness. Total Quality Management Systems and Lean Manufacturing training will also be offered. Manufacturers will be invited to apply for funding for advanced manufacturing assessment services and training. The Project Team will also complete a DoD supply chain map to better understand the DoD relationships in South Carolina. The project will enable small businesses to be more productive and more efficient and reduce costs and rework for the larger companies doing business with the Department of Defense. South Carolina has defense dependencies in Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Marion, Richland, and Sumter counties. While the Catalyst project will be implemented statewide, effort will be made to target manufactures in the DIB in these areas of the state.
