MCAS Yuma - Installation Resilience (Grant 1)

Abstract

The grant funds enable the City of Yuma to initiate a compatible use study, to update development regulations related to the needs and growth of the Yuma community and the Marine Corps Station Yuma (MCAS Yuma). The compatible use study is an opportunity to create a community-driven, cooperative, strategic planning process amongst MCAS Yuma, the City of Yuma, and other area communities to 1) promote development that is compatible with MCAS Yuma and the area communities; and 2) seek methods to reduce operational impacts in lands adjacent to military lands. The goal of this compatible use study is to encourage Yuma area communities to work closely with the installation to implement measures to prevent incompatible civilian development that may impair the continued operational missions of MCAS Yuma. The specific encroachment concerns are 1) new residential development located within close proximity to the military operations occurring; and 2) other commercial and industrial land development which is incompatible with the military operations of MCAS Yuma.
