State of Tennessee - Modernization

Abstract

Small-to-medium-sized Defense Industrial Base manufacturers in Tennessee currently face significant challenges, including outdated manufacturing processes, vulnerable supply chains, and a workforce skills gap. The Tennessee Manufacturing Extension Partnership is helping address these issues by conducting advanced manufacturing assessments for ten companies, providing technical assistance in advanced manufacturing and operational excellence to five companies, and offering quality management systems assistance to three companies. Primarily focused on the top five Tennessee defense dependent counties, technical assistance is being provided in the areas of process optimization, technology adoption, supply chain awareness, and workforce development. The outcomes of this initiative will enable manufactures to continually support the Department of Defense s diversification and modernization goals by accelerating technology adoption, equipping employees with the skills needed for modern defense projects, and keeping the defense industry competitive and efficient.
