City of Portsmouth - IR

Abstract

The City of Portsmouth planning grant will prepare a comprehensive flood mitigation and stormwater management strategies for five key corridors. The roadways identified during the Portsmouth and Chesapeake Joint Land Use Study constitute the five most critical implementation steps in the Plan, as they provide ingress and egress to key Naval facilities, but are already subject to severe flooding. The City will also be conducting a table top exercise with City and Navy personnel to better prepare for responding to hazards. The exercise will identify potentially hazardous scenarios, especially related to flooding, and coordinate responses to maximize access to Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
