Morris Hill ES at Fort Riley

Abstract

The Department of Defense (DoD) Public Schools on Military Installations (PSMI) grant provides funding to remedy the facility condition and capacity deficiencies at Morris Hill Elementary School, located on the Fort Riley Army Base in Geary County, Kansas, and ranked 53 on the PSMI priority list dated April 2019. First constructed in 1957 on 15.75 acres, the facility stands at 34,500 square feet. A 1990 expansion project included a media and music area. This project addresses a cost-effective expansion of Jefferson Elementary rather than renovation or replacement of Morris Hill Elementary. The proposed cost of expansion is $10,751,000. Federal share of this cost would be: $8,600,800 with an LEA match of $2,150,200. The design of Jefferson Elementary increases in size from 81,000 to 98,900 square feet with a student capacity increase from 380 to 570 students. Sizes of the Jefferson Elementary utility systems, administrative and support areas were designed for and will accommodate this proposed expansion.
