Portsmouth Naval Shipyard - Grant 4

Abstract

Southern Maine Regional Planning and Development Commission (SMPDC) is partnering with the Town of Kittery and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNS) to implement recommendations from the 2019 Joint Land Use Study. Stakeholders are developing strategies that improve and expand the variety of housing options within an easy commute of the base, or with easy access to transit, by implementing changes to local zoning codes. SMPDC is preparing a Transportation Demand Management plan that will help implement parking management and pedestrian infrastructure strategies that increase the effectiveness of transportation flow and access by studying and designing an off-site parking facility, assessing currently utilized off-site parking locations, and assessing bike and pedestrian infrastructure. SMPDC, in collaboration with stakeholders, is advancing key activities identified to increase base and community resilience, specifically a vulnerability assessment of infrastructure and a joint emergency preparation plan.
