Ursa Major ES Design & Demo JB Elmendorf-Richardson

Abstract

Anchorage School District is planning to construct a new 47,000 square foot Ursa Major elementary school on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson to meet the Facilities Condition Assessment Report Condition Deficiencies outlined by the Department of Defense in the 2019 Public Schools on Military Installations Priority List, and seismic deficiencies identified by the Anchorage School District. The proposed construction will meet state and federal design guidelines, capacity requirements, and technology needs. This grant provides for the demolition of the existing facility and the design of a new facility that will occupy approximately the same footprint. Due to the uncertainty in construction costs, the Anchorage School District requests a two-part grant award. The first is a grant award for design and demolition totaling $5.8 M. The second award for construction will occur in 2025 after demolition is complete and after the Anchorage School District receives 65% design cost estimates. The second grant award will be approximately $35.6M depending on actual costs from part one and cost estimate revisions from the 65% design.
