Seymour Johnson - IR
Abstract
This grant executes a Flood Mitigation Study of the Goldsboro Waste Water Treatment Plant to fully assess the plant s risks and mitigation options including a feasibility study. The Goldsboro Waste Water Treatment Plant is a public infrastructure facility operated by the City of Goldsboro which treats raw waste from the City, its residents, and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. However, the plant s location within the Neuse River floodplain and immediately upstream of the installation present vulnerable conditions during hurricanes and other large-scale flooding events, as the elements needed to ensure the ongoing operation of wastewater treatment systems become susceptible to damages, and potentially, system failure. The study addresses: (i) the establishment of criteria and risk potential for flood protection, redundancy, and resiliency; and (ii) the development and evaluation of concepts for facility improvements and/or relocation.
