Cape Canaveral Waste Water Plant - IR

Abstract

The proposed regional waste water treatment facility project aims to address wastewater infrastructure challenges facing Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) and adjacent communities in Brevard County, Florida. The waste water treatment facility at CCSFS, located on a barrier island, is exposed to hurricanes, storm surge, and sea level rise; is forecasted to exceed capacity by 2031; and fails to meet state enforced AWT standards. The goal is to establish a new regional facility on the mainland to accommodate increased space launch activities at CCSFS, service the growth of the industrial base supporting space port activities, and create installation and community resilience while protecting the Indian River Lagoon (IRL) from nutrient impairment. The proposed Phase 2 study of the regional WWTF will identify the stakeholder/owner of the facility, confirm flow projections from CCSFS and Brevard County communities, identify and confirm conveyance, confirm effluent water quality goals and disposal and reuse options, determine advanced wastewater treatment options, develop project phasing plan, and identify funding options.
