NAWS China Lake IR Grant 2

Abstract

Under the Office of Local Defense Communities Cooperation Military Installation Resilience program, inz 2023 the City of Ridgecrest completed a Military Installation Resiliency study to identify, prioritize, and address natural and man-made threats to installation mission readiness at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. The installation workforce is composed of both military and civilian personnel, with the majority of the essential workforce residing off-installation in the adjacent defense support community that is the City of Ridgecrest. As the only incorporated township in the Indian Wells Valley, the City of Ridgecrest provides a number of vital services that are necessary to support both the military and civilian installation workforce for mission readiness. The City of Ridgecrest is completing a Land Use Compatibility Plan to identify areas of encroachment on operational use of NAWS China Lake, to be followed with a housing development assessment to identify and promote compatible land use around the installation. The City is also conducting a tabletop exercise to assess stakeholder feedback regarding potential outcome scenarios for challenges facing the region and installation and preparing construction bid-ready design plans for a diversion channel to address flooding that impacts installation back-gate access.
